Executive with twenty years of experience in developing, small and middle market enterprises with expertise in all areas of financial reporting, financial consolidation, tax reporting, cash management, budgeting and forecasting.

 

Since joining the BlackBriar team, John’s engagements have included:

 

  • Serving as a member of financial advisory team leading the restructuring of the accounting and financial reporting department of a multi-location amusement park owner/operating sold to private equity as part of a financial reorganization;

 

  • Serving as interim CFO establishing processes, procedures, financial and KPI reporting for a $5 million revenue regional security guard service and fire and security alarm contractor;

 

  • Serving as financial advisor and interim CFO for $35 million revenue metal fabricator in receivership and bankruptcy including preparation of Operating Reports, financing statement reconstruction, cash management and wind down responsibilities.

 

  • Serving as financial advisor to $50 million logistics enterprise overseeing cash management and financial modelling and forecasting during refinancing process.

 

Prior to joining BlackBriar, John provided contract CFO and Controller services through Duncan Messersmith & Associates, Ltd, an Arkansas based Certified Public Accounting firm for three years.

Accomplishments

Prior to Duncan Messersmith, he served CFO for Sigma Supply, Inc., an $80 million industrial supply distributor with responsibilities for accounting, information systems and customer service departments.  He was realigned policies and procedures, improved financial reporting close processes and negotiated renewal of lending agreements.

 

Prior to Sigma Supply, John served as CFO for Bean Lumber Company, a $50 million family owned lumber business.  He had primary responsibility for all accounting and cash management functions during a challenging time for the firm.  He established reporting processes to meet increased requirements of the lender, improved budgeting and cash forecasting processes and renegotiated service contracts to reduce operating costs.

 

Prior to the Bean, John served as staff accountant for Spann & Associates, Ltd, a local CPA firm.  Prior to Spann, he served as Corporate Manager of Accounting for Coleman Natural Foods, Inc., a Colorado based $600 million revenue natural and organic protein producer with six operating subsidiaries.  John managed a staff of eight with responsibility for cash management, forecasting, foreign exchange, internal controls and external audit interface.

 

Prior to Coleman, he served as Division Controller for USA Today/Gannett Co. responsible for division financial reporting, accounts receivable credit and collection policies and management reporting.
